Our favourite games

We have a reputation for enjoying ourselves, even when not dancing. Here are just a few of our favourite games, rated by Mike.

Honey, I love you

A fun party game that requires a group that is sitting, with one person standing in the middle. The person in the middle goes to anyone and say, "Honey, I love you, won't you give me a smile?" The person who is asked the question responds "Honey, I love you, but I just can't smile!" (without smiling). The person in the middle can try any tricks to make that person smile. If (when, hopefully) the sitting person smiles then that person subjects another guest to the same script. We have done this at MMM parties and it has been okay. I'd say about 7/10 marks.

Balloon snake

Teams of about 6 people. A balloon to each person. Blow up balloons. Teams all face the same way. Place balloons at about tummy height forming a snake. Course about 10m and off the teams race keeping balloons in place. MMM have played this a few times and it has been good fun. First time was with Morris sides making their own teams. I ponder about a variation - making an obstacle or two - say a little jump for the snakes to get over (could call it a log?). Maybe a few jumps and call this Balloon Horse and have a steeplechase? The basic version I'd give 9/10 marks... every time plenty of laughing. Last occasion spinning the couch that snakes had to rush round as part of the course. There is photo of this game being played below and the faces say it all.

Ankle balloons

A balloon to each person and blow it up. A piece of string about half a metre long (20 inches in old money) to each person. Attach one end of string to balloon and t'other end to participant's either ankle. On the signal to start the players try to protect their own balloon from being burst whilst bursting other balloons. If your balloon is burst you are out. The last person with an intact balloon is winner. I like this game to get people into the fun party mood. Always been good albeit I fear health and safety will ban this game soon so play it while you can. 9/10.

Tear the animal

Each person is given a sheet of newspaper from which to tear the shape of an animal. If the others can guess what it is then you've probably done quite well! Prizes allocated to arty smarty alecs who produce masterpieces - or not as the case may be!

Adverbs

Someone is chosen to be sent out the room. The assembled company then decides on an adverb that this person has to guess. When called back into the room the person asks someone to act out something of his choice in the style of the adverb - for example 'Mike - please do the washing up in this style'. By asking as few people as possible to do different things in this style, the person has to guess the adverb.

Don't ask!
